Donnybrook LTC aims to provide an enriching, inclusive and welcoming environment where children of all ages and levels can develop and improve their tennis skills in a fun and relaxed way. Our Junior programme supports this with opportunities to practice and play tennis, both socially and competitively, and through our coaching programmes.
Our Junior Members are represented by a group of selected Teen Juniors and a Suggestion Box is located in the Foyer by the Notice Boards.

Junior Practice and PlayOur Programme of tennis events encourage Juniors to practice and play as often as possible. Our Daily Calendar has all Junior events included. Please keep an eye on it as it is updated regularly.
Regular Junior events are organised well in advance while other Junior events can be set up in response to particular circumstances or demands such as additional match practice in advance of a competitive tournament or a league match. Events include ‘Super Saturday’ tennis, Round Robin tournaments,‘play and pizza’, themed events, Inter-Club ‘friendly’ matches, play practice and pre-tournament match practice, Family Day BBQs, Family Day Cup.
During school holiday periods, Junior tennis camps are run (February mid-terms, Easter and Summer school holidays) and a Junior Steward is in attendance from 1pm to 4pm in the afternoons during the Summer to organise and supervise lunch followed by a variety of Junior activities including play practice, games, mini-tournaments and other activities. The Donnybrook Junior Club Championships, one of the highlights of the year, also takes place during the autumn mid-term break, giving our junior members an opportunity to compete within the Club.
Junior League Tennis
The main events are the Junior Leagues and Stars ’n Stripes Leagues (aimed at Juniors with a Leinster Tennis ranking below 70). The age categories include Under 14 and Under 16 leagues run by Dublin Lawn Tennis Council while Leinster Tennis run the Under 16 and Under 18 Leagues. Teams can be all girls, all boys or mixed. The matches are doubles for Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 age categories and for Under 18s, matches are both singles and doubles. Matches are usually played on either Saturday (Stars and Stripes League) or Sunday (Junior Leagues) afternoons.
Juniors over the age of 14 are also encouraged to play in the Dublin adult leagues in which the Club fields teams. This provides practical, hands-on coaching to Juniors by our experienced Senior members and provides a valuable pathway to transitioning from Junior to Senior League tennis.
Junior CoachingCoaching is provided to members via an extensive Junior Coaching Programme covering all levels from beginner to Intermediate and elite/advanced. The Club’s coaches run the Programme concurrent with the school year from September to May. For more information on our Coaches and Coaching programmes, please click here.
Junior Open and Other TournamentsMost tennis clubs host an annual Junior Open where junior players can participate in events such as Singles, Doubles or Mixed Doubles. Donnybrook LTC Open is held in August. Tennis Ireland and provincial Tennis bodies such as Leinster Tennis host other competitive tournaments during the year.
